On October 12, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Jeffrey Michael Guida. The event occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Island Point Road and North View Harbour Drive, where Guida was fatally shot during a road rage confrontation.
According to eyewitness accounts, both Guida and the alleged shooter, 75-year-old Terrell Eugene Giddens, exited their vehicles following a traffic dispute.
The confrontation escalated when Giddens reportedly brandished a rifle and fired multiple rounds at Guida, resulting in his death. During the altercation, Giddens also allegedly fired into Guida's vehicle, which was occupied by his three children, aged 13, 11, and 2. Fortunately, the children were not physically harmed.
Following the incident, deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, guided by descriptions provided by witnesses, located Giddens at his residence on Island Point Road. He was arrested and charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Giddens is currently being held without bond and was scheduled to appear in Catawba County District Court on October 14, 2024.
The community has been left in shock by this tragic event, with neighbors expressing disbelief that such violence could occur in their area. A makeshift memorial has been established at the scene of the shooting to honor Guida's memory.
