On Christmas Day 2023, a violent domestic dispute unfolded at a residence in Grain Valley, Missouri, resulting in the death of 44-year-old White male Christopher Eason. The incident occurred in the evening within the 700 block of Southwest Woodland Circle. Police were dispatched to the home shortly after 7:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim lying face down in the dining room, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation revealed that the altercation involved the victim and his 23-year-old son, Franklin Ray Eason, who was present at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody.
Witnesses reported that tensions rose when Christopher Eason became upset upon learning that his son’s friend intended to move out of the shared residence. During the argument, the father allegedly retrieved a handgun and began waving it around before setting it down on a table. According to probable cause statements, Franklin Eason then picked up the weapon and fired multiple rounds at his father. When the firearm jammed, Franklin reportedly retrieved a second gun from another area of the home to fire a third shot, later telling detectives he did so to stop his father from suffering.
Franklin Eason was arrested on-site without incident and allegedly admitted to the shooting when officers arrived. He was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following his arrest, he was held on a $100,000 bond. Prosecutors detailed that after the shooting, the suspect placed the weapon on a kitchen counter and called individuals living in Kansas to inform them of what had transpired before authorities were contacted. As of the last available reports, the case was proceeding through the Jackson County court system.
