On February 8, 2023, Russell D. Heller, a 51-year-old councilman from Milford, New Jersey, was fatally shot in the parking lot of the PSE&G facility in Somerset where he worked as a senior distribution supervisor. The assailant, identified as 58-year-old Gary T. Curtis, a former employee of PSE&G, approached Heller outside his vehicle and shot him. Authorities later located Curtis in a parking lot in Bridgewater Township, where he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
