In a tragic incident on April 16, 2023, in Monroe Township, New Jersey, 17-year-old Cayden Sincere Jones was fatally shot. The event unfolded at a residence on Chestnut Street in the afternoon. Emergency responders arrived to find Jones with a single gunshot wound to the head. He was initially transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a facility in Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation into the shooting quickly led to the arrest of 18-year-old Nasir D. Robinson-Sanders. According to law enforcement, Robinson-Sanders and Jones were friends. The shooting appears to have been a tragic accident that occurred while the two teenagers were 'playing around' with a. 40 caliber handgun that Robinson-Sanders had taken from his father's truck.
Believing the firearm was unloaded after removing the magazine and racking the slide, Robinson-Sanders reportedly pulled the trigger.
However, a single round remained in the chamber, which discharged and struck Jones in the head. The manner of death was ruled a homicide by the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office, with the cause being a gunshot wound.
Following the incident, Nasir D. Robinson-Sanders was taken into custody and charged with first-degree manslaughter and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was subsequently lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. In a selfless act, Cayden Jones's organs were donated, saving two lives.
