On a late summer evening in Sayreville, New Jersey, the life of 22-year-old Jeremiah Brown, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 20, 2024, at approximately 9:49 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night on Swider Drive. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Brown suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased right there in the parking lot of an apartment building.
The investigation that followed, led by detectives from the Sayreville Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, soon pointed to a suspect who was familiar to the victim. This was not a random act of violence; the two men knew each other, though the nature of their relationship was not immediately made public. Within a week, the investigation zeroed in on 18-year-old Daniel Adediran, a resident of Sayreville.
On August 28, 2024, Adediran was arrested without incident.
He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Following his arrest, Adediran was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center to await a pre-trial detention hearing. While an arrest has been made, authorities have continued to encourage anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
