A man dies of gunshot wounds In the late afternoon of August 18, 2015, in the 200 block of Wilder Drive in Savannah, Georgia, 20-year-old Marquail DeShawn Banner was found with life-threatening injuries from a shooting. Emergency services transported the young African-American man to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. Known to his loved ones as 'Fat Quail,' his transition on that Tuesday at Memorial Health University Medical Center marked a sorrowful end to a young life.
For more than
two years, the case of Marquail Banner's death remained without a public resolution, a painful period of uncertainty for his family and community. The investigation was diligently pursued by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. Their Cold Case Unit, through persistent investigative efforts, eventually identified a suspect in the fatal shooting.
On December 29, 2017, a significant breakthrough was announced. The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Cold Case Unit arrested a man in connection with the 2015 murder. The suspect was identified as Dominique Daniels, who was 19 years old at the time of the incident. That afternoon, Daniels was served with a warrant for murder, bringing a long-awaited development in the quest for justice for Marquail Banner. Funeral services for Marquail were held on August 28, 2015, at Second Arnold Baptist Church, with his interment at Woodville Cemetery.
