Kayla Michelle Collins Healey was a 21-year-old mother of two from Aylett, Virginia. On the evening of Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the young White woman was present at a gathering on Battery Brooke Parkway in Chesterfield County, a location known for car meet-ups.
At approximately 11:39 p.m., an altercation reportedly broke out among several people at the event. During the dispute, Kayla, who was sitting inside a vehicle at the time, was shot.
She was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her wounds four days later on Sunday, August 11.
The Chesterfield Police Department's investigation into the fatal shooting quickly identified two women as suspects. On Monday, August 12, just a day after Kayla’s death, the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 29-year-old Nibreya A. Kee and 39-year-old Rose M. Nadey. The arrests were made in Fairfax, Virginia, and both women were held without bond.
According to police, their investigation indicated that Kee shot Healey during the altercation. Kee was initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Nadey was charged with principle in the second degree to aggravated malicious wounding, conspiracy to commit aggravated malicious wounding, and misdemeanor assault.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Kayla's family established a GoFundMe page to help cover unexpected burial costs. Authorities announced at the time of the arrests that their investigation remained active and that additional charges were pending against both suspects in light of Kayla's death. The case was proceeding through the legal system as of August 2024.
