In the quiet, rural landscape of Capron, Virginia, a grim discovery was made on the afternoon of October 2, 2024. The Southampton County Sheriff's Office received a report around 2:01 p.m. about an unresponsive woman lying on Angelico Road. When deputies arrived at the scene, about a mile from the intersection of Cedar View Road, they found the woman in the roadway.
Emergency medical services were dispatched, but it was too late; she was pronounced dead at the scene by 2:27 p.m.
The woman was later identified as 40-year-old Chasidy Dawn Wilburn of Emporia, Virginia. An initial examination revealed that she had injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Her body was then transported to the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk for a comprehensive autopsy to confirm the cause of death and to aid in the ongoing investigation. The medical examiner positively identified her by October 7, 2024.
