A birthday celebration in Waterloo, South Carolina, turned tragic on the evening of April 15, 2023, ending in a shooting that claimed the life of 37-year-old Darren Mandez Hill. Deputies from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence on Coyote Drive around 8:25 PM following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
Darren Hill, a Black male from the nearby town of Cross Hill, was
among the wounded. He was rushed to Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Another victim of the shooting was left in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the incident that shattered the festive atmosphere of the party. The investigation into the deadly shooting was launched by the Laurens County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.
The investigation led to a significant development on May 4, 2023, with the arrest of 33-year-old Randall Sherodrick Moore of Waterloo. Moore was taken into custody in Greenwood on a traffic offense the day prior and was subsequently transferred to Laurens County to face charges related to the shooting. He has been charged with murder, two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and breach of peace of an aggravated nature.
