On June 24, 2023, 57-year-old Melvin McNair was fatally shot and set on fire at a residence in the 600 block of West County Line Road in Jackson, Mississippi. Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene, shouting, "I told you not to play with me!"
The following day, Jackson Police arrested 57-year-old Carleton Haynes, McNair's cousin, in connection with the homicide. Haynes was charged with murder and taken into custody.
