On Mother's Day, May 12, 2024, family members concerned for the welfare of the Welch family contacted the Ridgeland Police Department in Mississippi. Upon entering the home on Old Canton Road, officers discovered a tragic scene. Three women had been shot to death inside the residence. The victims were identified as 76-year-old Ida Thomas Welch, and her two daughters, 56-year-old Vicky Renee Welch and 42-year-old Crystal Lynn Welch.
