Tasiyah "Siyah" Woodland, an 18-year-old Black transgender woman from Lexington Park, Maryland, was tragically shot and killed on March 24, 2023, near the Big Dogs in Paradise bar in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunshots in the parking lot of the bar around 1 a.m. and found Woodland dead in a nearby car, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
