On a Monday afternoon, September 16, 2024, in Waldorf, Maryland, a dispute escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 44-year-old Antione Jerome Whitaker of Washington, D.C.. The male victim was found with a gunshot wound in the 11600 block of Lewisham Place after police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 1:18 p.m.. Emergency medical personnel attempted to provide first aid, but Whitaker was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspects flee the area in a U-Haul truck. Law enforcement officers quickly located and pursued the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop. The chase came to an end near the intersection of Crain Highway and Plaza Drive after officers successfully deployed stop sticks to disable the truck. Two suspects, 22-year-old Anton Jermaine Wood and 50-year-old Rayvon Kojak Gordon, were then taken into custody without further incident.
Following their arrest, Wood and Gordon were charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. After consultation with the Charles County State's Attorney's Office, both men are being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond. The preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting stemmed from an argument between the suspects and Whitaker. The ongoing investigation is being handled by detectives from the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
