In the small town of Boswell, Oklahoma, a domestic disturbance in the early morning hours of January 24, 2023, tragically ended the life of 42-year-old Riki Renee Amix. A female resident of Boswell, Amix had been involved in a dispute that prompted a call to her sister for assistance at her home around 1:20 a.m. The situation escalated, resulting in her death from a gunshot wound.
The investigation into her death led to the arrest of Chase Lane Rocha, a 21-year-old from Boswell.
Initially, Rocha was charged with second-degree murder by the Choctaw Nation. The incident was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Lighthorse Police. According to investigators, family members had disarmed Rocha twice during the dispute at the Boswell-area residence. He returned a third time, armed with a revolver. It was during the third attempt to disarm him that the fatal shot was fired, killing Amix. The crime occurred within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation in Choctaw County.
On October 4, 2023, a federal jury found Chase Lane Rocha guilty of one count of involuntary manslaughter in Indian Country. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in Riki Amix's death. The court ordered him into the custody of the U.S. Marshal to be transported to a United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
