In the early morning hours of April 8, 2023, the life of 30-year-old Ashley Pfannenstiel was tragically cut short in her Blanchard, Oklahoma, home. A domestic disturbance call led McClain County Sheriff's deputies and a Blanchard police officer to her residence at approximately 3:40 a.m. Upon their arrival, they were met with gunfire from Ashley's estranged husband, Konrad Pfannenstiel.
The situation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Konrad Pfannenstiel shot and killed his wife, Ashley, and also fired upon the responding officers, striking one of them multiple times. In the exchange of gunfire that followed, the injured officer was heroically pulled to safety by his fellow deputies. The officer was later transported to a hospital and was expected to make a full recovery. Following the shooting, Konrad Pfannenstiel retreated inside the residence.
After a standoff that involved the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tactical team, law enforcement made entry into the home. Inside, they discovered both Ashley and Konrad Pfannenstiel deceased. It was determined that Ashley had been killed by her husband, who then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in what was ruled a murder-suicide. The couple's two young children, a two-year-old and a five-month-old, were not present at the time of the incident and were reportedly with other family members.
In the weeks leading up to the fatal incident, Ashley had taken steps to protect herself, having filed for a victim protective order against her husband on March 29. However, the order had not yet been served. Family members described Ashley as a fun-loving person who was a devoted mother and a friend to everyone. They expressed their shock and devastation over the actions of her husband, whom they had previously loved and welcomed into their family. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is leading the ongoing investigation into the tragic events.
