In the cold, early hours of January 26, 2024, the life of 29-year-old Joshua Caleb Williams, a White/Caucasian male from Oklahoma City, was irrevocably altered. Police were called to the scene of a shooting at an abandoned school located at 1900 NW 10th Street around 1 a.m. There, they discovered two victims. Danielle Mahaffey, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Williams was found critically wounded and immediately transported to a local hospital.
Despite medical efforts, Joshua Caleb Williams succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
The incident was investigated as a double homicide by the Oklahoma City Police Department, marking the city's 5th and 6th homicides of the year. Initially, investigators had no suspects and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest, establishing a dedicated tip line for the case. The Williams family, in their grief, spoke of Joshua's love for the Lord Jesus despite his struggles with addiction. They found a small measure of solace in being able to be with him in his final days, a time they described as a gift that allowed for forgiveness and healing. In an act of generosity amidst their sorrow, his family chose to donate his organs, saving other lives.
A breakthrough in the investigation came on March 11, 2024, when the Oklahoma City Police Department announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with the deaths of both Williams and Mahaffey. The individuals taken into custody were 26-year-old Nicholas Tyre Myers and a 15-year-old juvenile whose name was not publicly released due to their age. Both suspects are facing charges for their alleged roles in the double homicide. The motive for the shooting remains part of the ongoing investigation.
