On the evening of September 7, 2023, Dan Spaeth, a 37-year-old Caucasian male from Snohomish, Washington, was shot and killed near his home on Machias Road. Spaeth, a correctional officer, was with his wife attempting to slow down traffic for deer that were crossing the road.

According to charging documents and witness statements, Spaeth and his wife were in their driveway trying to alert drivers to the deer when a black sedan, which was reportedly tailgating a green Jeep, approached. As ...
