In the early morning hours of November 29, 2023, a violent encounter in Auburn, Washington, claimed the life of 34-year-old Jessica Fawn Thompson, a White / Caucasian female. The tragic sequence of events began to unfold at approximately 1:30 a.m. at a gas station situated in the 800 block of Harvey Road. Thompson was a passenger in a Ford truck when an unknown individual approached the vehicle, leading to a dispute.

During the altercation, shots were fired, and Thompson was struck by gunfire. Despite her injuries, the vehicle she was in fled the scene, coming to a stop near the 500 block of 15th Street Northeast. It was here that law enforcement and first responders found her. Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Jessica Fawn Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that she died from gunshot wounds to her torso and an extremity, officially ruling her death a homicide.

The Auburn Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, reviewing camera footage from the area in an effort to identify the person responsible for Thompson's death. In the days following the incident, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. Thompson's death was one of three unrelated fatal shootings that occurred in Auburn within a six-day span, though investigators did not believe the incidents were connected or that they were random acts of violence. The investigation into the death of Jessica Fawn Thompson remains ongoing.
