Felipe Vigil, a 40-year-old Hispanic male, was killed on January 1, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the early morning hours of New Year's Day, an altercation occurred at the Adam Market located at 7817 Central Ave., N.E. The incident, which took place shortly after 1 a.m., involved Felipe Vigil and several other individuals.
During the physical altercation, Vigil was punched by multiple people in the parking lot of the market.
After being knocked to the ground, Vigil managed to get up and run from the scene. According to surveillance footage and witness statements, a man identified as Martin Osoria, 33, then grabbed a handgun and pursued Vigil, reportedly stating his intention to kill him. Moments later, the Albuquerque Police Department's ShotSpotter system registered the sound of gunshots in the vicinity. Officers were dispatched to the area and discovered Felipe Vigil deceased in the street. An autopsy later concluded that Vigil had been shot four times.
In the course of their investigation, homicide detectives identified Martin Osoria as the primary suspect. On February 1, 2023, Osoria was arrested on unrelated federal narcotics charges following an investigation by APD Narcotics and the Drug Enforcement Administration. A search warrant executed at a residence on Charleston St. uncovered firearms, narcotics, and a mask that Osoria was allegedly wearing on the night of the shooting. Subsequently, a state warrant was issued for Osoria, charging him with an open count of murder in the death of Felipe Vigil. Known affectionately by friends and family, Felipe Vigil was a talented tattoo artist with a big heart who was loved by many.
