In the quiet desert community of Sandy Valley, Nevada, a tragedy unfolded on the evening of February 2, 2023, forever altering the lives of a local family. Deborah Wheeler, a 61-year-old Caucasian female, was fatally shot in her home in an act of sudden violence that stemmed from a domestic dispute. The incident, which occurred on the 800 block of Marble Avenue, cut short a life and left a community in shock.
On that Thursday night, an argument erupted between Wheeler and her boyfriend,
62-year-old David Kashich. The disagreement reportedly began when Wheeler confronted Kashich about stealing money. The heated exchange escalated dramatically, leading to a violent and irreversible conclusion. The conflict moved to their bedroom, where the situation took a deadly turn in front of Wheeler's own daughter.
In a horrifying sequence of events, Kashich armed himself with a handgun. He reportedly grabbed Wheeler's daughter by the hair with one hand while using the other to shoot Deborah Wheeler in the chest. Following the shooting, Kashich fled to the backyard with the gun and his phone. Responding to a call from the daughter reporting that her mother had been shot, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene. They were able to contact Kashich by phone, and he subsequently surrendered to the authorities.
Deborah Wheeler was transported to a hospital, but tragically succumbed to her injuries. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed her cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest. David Kashich was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including open murder, assault, and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, due to a prior felony conviction in Washington from 2001. Kashich was held in custody without bail pending his court appearance.
