A simmering dispute at a convenience store in the Gardner community, near Boyce, Louisiana, on the evening of Saturday, April 13, 2024, tragically ended the life of 27-year-old Michael Grossie. The altercation, which initially seemed to have been de-escalated by bystanders, reignited with fatal consequences.
The incident began with a heated argument involving a 17-year-old, Trayton Tyson, who was at the store with his mother and a female friend. After the initial confrontation was seemingly resolved, a second altercation broke out. During this second dispute, Tyson retrieved a pistol from a vehicle and, despite pleas from his mother and others present, fired a single shot that struck Michael Grossie.
Grossie sustained severe, life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wound. In a devastating turn of events, immediately after shooting Grossie, Trayton Tyson turned the gun on himself, inflicting a critical injury. Both Michael Grossie and Trayton Tyson were transported to a local hospital, but both ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
Michael Lewis Grossie Jr. was remembered as an impactful person who was fierce and fearless, especially when it came to protecting others. He was a father, son, brother, and fiancé who was deeply loved by his family and friends. The investigation into the incident was handled by the Sheriff's Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit, who pieced together the tragic sequence of events from witness statements and evidence at the scene. Due to the death of the suspect, Trayton Tyson, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings in this case.
