In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Reserve, Louisiana, 16-year-old Aariah Henry was fatally shot in what authorities have described as a targeted attack. The young female, a student at East St. John High School, was a passenger in a black Dodge Challenger with five other individuals when another vehicle, a silver car, pulled alongside them on Airline Highway and opened fire.
The incident, which occurred around 2 a.m., is not believed to have been directed at Henry.
Law enforcement officials have stated that they do not think she or the other two females in the car were the intended victims of the shooting. Tragically, Aariah was struck by the gunfire and was later pronounced dead.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office have been working to piece together the events of that tragic morning. They have recovered both the vehicle Aariah was in and the suspected shooter's car, a 2015 gray Kia Optima, which was found in Garyville. Both vehicles were processed for evidence. A significant challenge in the investigation has been the lack of cooperation from the three adult male passengers who were in the car with Aariah at the time of the shooting.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Aariah Henry, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains active, and authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible for the young girl's death to justice.
