In the rural community of Falls-of-Rough, Kentucky, a dispute between neighbors over a dog escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 46-year-old Benjamin Vibbert. The male victim was shot and killed on the morning of Thursday, February 2, 2023, in the Short Creek area of Grayson County. The incident unfolded around 10:39 a.m. near the 100 block of Keith's Crossing, where a confrontation between Vibbert and his neighbor, Michael Baker, turned violent.

State Police, the two men were arguing when the altercation intensified. Reports indicate that at some point during the dispute, Vibbert brandished a knife. In response, Baker, who was 42 years old at the time, allegedly shot Vibbert. Law enforcement and emergency services arrived at the scene to find Vibbert with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grayson County Coroner's Office.
Following the shooting, Michael Baker was identified as the suspect. He reportedly remained at the scene and waited for police to arrive. After the initial investigation by the Kentucky State Police, it was announced that the case would be turned over to a Grayson County Grand Jury for further review. The outcome of the grand jury proceedings has not been publicly reported.
Benjamin Vibbert was remembered as a talented craftsman and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses. He was described as having a big personality and someone who never met a stranger. His death left behind his two children, his wife, and a large extended family.
