In the spring of 2023, the Parkland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, was shaken by the violent death of a beloved community member. On the evening of May 9th, 33-year-old Julius 'Chuckie' Cole, a Black/African American male, was fatally shot at 3027 Greenwood Avenue. His death was quickly classified as a homicide by the Louisville Metro Police Department, marking another tragic loss for the city.
The case remains an open investigation, and as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Julius Cole was a man deeply embedded in his community, known for his unwavering dedication to the youth he served. As a youth development worker at the Parkland Boys and Girls Club, he was a beacon of positivity and a source of constant encouragement for the children. He was remembered for his compassion, his love, and his commitment to ensuring the joy and personal growth of the young people he worked with daily. His infectious humor, reliability, and uplifting spirit, often expressed through jokes and rap songs, left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
The news of his untimely death sent ripples of sorrow throughout the community. In the days that followed, there was an outpouring of support for his grieving family. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to assist them during this difficult time. His life and legacy were honored during funeral services held at Pleasant View Missionary Baptist Church on May 20, 2023. He was laid to rest at Green Meadows three days later, leaving behind a community to mourn a man who had given so much and whose life was cut short by an act of violence that remains unsolved.
