In the early morning hours of May 12, 2023, a shooting in the southern Pike County community of Phelps, Kentucky, resulted in the death of 34-year-old William Working. The incident, which took place around 7:30 a.m., prompted an investigation by the Kentucky State Police. Working was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner's Office.
