In the early morning hours of May 12, 2023, a shooting in the southern Pike County community of Phelps, Kentucky, resulted in the death of 34-year-old William Working. The incident, which took place around 7:30 a.m., prompted an investigation by the Kentucky State Police. Working was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner's Office.
Authorities quickly identified a suspect in the fatal shooting.
Sterlin Justice, a 19-year-old from Stopover, was arrested in connection with Working's death. Law enforcement officials have indicated that the two men were cousins.
Following the investigation, Sterlin Justice was charged with murder. He was subsequently lodged in the Pike County Detention Center without bond. The case has been described as a result of an altercation between the two relatives, leading to the tragic loss of William Working's life to gun violence.
