On March 23, 2024, Earl Morrison Coffey, an 86-year-old resident of Columbia, Kentucky, suffered a fatal shooting at his home in the Montpelier community of Adair County. The incident involved Joseph South, a 57-year-old man from Columbia, who was in the process of being evicted from a property he rented from Coffey.
