On April 29, 2023, Jonathon Elliott, a 14-year-old from Southport, Indiana, was fatally shot at a family member’s home in the 600 block of South Pleasant Street in Edinburgh, Indiana. The incident occurred while Jonathon was playing video games with his brother, David Brandenburg. According to the preliminary probable cause affidavit, Jonathon's foster brother, Pedro C. Castillo Salmeron, 20, of Greenwood, was the one who pulled the trigger.
