On June 25, 2013, 83-year-old Robert "Bob" Levey was found murdered in his home on Mimosa Drive in Jacksonville, Florida. Firefighters responding to a house fire discovered his body inside the charred remains of his home. Investigators later determined that the fire had been deliberately set to cover up the brutal crime, with Levey having died from blunt force trauma.
Witnesses reported seeing a suspicious individual fleeing the scene carrying a can of gasoline.
The suspect, described as a white male in his late teens or early twenties, with shoulder-length brown hair, was seen running away from the area. Despite witnesses pursuing the individual, the suspect threatened them with a gun, prompting them to stop and call the police.
Levey was a well-known and well-liked member of the community, having worked for 37 years at WTLV Channel 12 before his retirement. He was known for his kindness, particularly his habit of refurbishing broken toys and giving them to children in his neighborhood. His family and the authorities continue to appeal for any information that might help solve the case.
In recent years, evidence has been reexamined using newer forensic technology, in hopes that DNA analysis might finally lead to a breakthrough in the case. Despite these efforts, no arrests have been made, and Levey's murder remains unsolved.
