Dayman "Rocky" Warren Jr., a 27-year-old resident of Granite City, Illinois, died on October 1, 2023, in East St. Louis, Illinois. The cause of his death was a shooting incident that occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 900 block of St. Louis Avenue in East St. Louis.
The shooting resulted in Warren being pronounced dead at a hospital. Following the incident, Terrell Amerson, a 27-year-old man from Belleville, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Warren's death.
Amerson also faces charges of three counts of unlawfully possessing a weapon as a felon and unlawfully possessing firearm ammunition as a felon. He was arrested on the same day as the shooting and is currently being held without bond at the East St. Louis police department.
Warren left behind a family that includes his mother, Shavala McDowell of Granite City, IL; his father, Raymond Maury Sr.; his special friend, Emoni Singleton of St. Louis, MO; and his children, Kingston Singleton and Kyliee Singleton, both of St. Louis, MO. He also had several siblings and extended family members, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him.
The visitation service for Warren was scheduled to take place on October 14, 2023, at The Civic Center in Brooklyn, IL, followed by a service at 11:00 a.m..
