In the fading light of a Saturday evening in Brunswick, Georgia, on October 12, 2024, the life of 35-year-old Bobby Harris was tragically cut short. Police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Ninth Street and Pine Street at approximately 8:23 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Harris in the roadway, suffering from gunshot wounds.
First responders rendered aid at the scene, and he was transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Glynn County Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the death of the Brunswick man. Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify individuals they believed to be involved in the shooting. This led them to execute search warrants at hotel rooms, where they uncovered what they described as 'pertinent evidence' related to the case. The investigation quickly pointed to two primary suspects.
The first arrest came swiftly. Sheldon Wright was taken into custody and charged with felony murder, malice murder, and intent to distribute cocaine, suggesting a possible link between the fatal shooting and drug activity. A few days later, a second suspect, 51-year-old James Roberts, was apprehended at the federal courthouse in Brunswick. He was charged with malice murder and felony murder in connection with Harris's death. Authorities indicated that Roberts had a history of serving prison sentences for assault on an officer. While two arrests were made, the police have stated that they anticipate more individuals may be charged as their investigation continues.
