On January 11, 2023, Sandra Herman, a 79-year-old woman, died as a result of a shooting incident in Longwood, Florida. The incident occurred in the 2400 block of Jennifer Hope Boulevard in the Jennifer Estates area of unincorporated Longwood.
When deputies from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) arrived at the scene around 4 p.m., they found Sandra Herman injured in the front yard. She was immediately taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Witnesses reported that Herman was shot by an elderly man, later identified as her ex-husband, Gilbert Principe, 81. After obtaining a search warrant, deputies entered the home and found Principe dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple had been divorced since October 1995.
Gilbert Principe was a longtime orthodontist with an office in Mount Dora. The incident is described as an apparent murder-suicide, with Principe killing his ex-wife before taking his own life.
