Winshay Roddey, a 25-year-old woman from Lawtey, Florida, was one of the three victims in a tragic shooting incident that occurred on March 12, 2024. She was killed along with her mother, Quinqune “Cat” Robinson, 49, and her sister, Denesha Sims, 27.
The incident took place at their home in Bradford County, where Johnnie Bernard Brown, Robinson's longtime partner and the father of the victims, is alleged to have committed the murders. According to the arrest report, Brown claimed that he and Robinson were arguing, and when Roddey and Sims intervened, he grabbed his gun and started shooting. Brown stated that the women came at him with knives, but investigators found that Sims was holding a knife in a defensive manner behind a chair, and another knife was found at Robinson’s feet.
The 11-year-old granddaughter of Robinson, who is also the niece of Sims and Roddey, was the one who called 911 after witnessing the violence. She was hit by bullet shrapnel but was released from the hospital the same day. The young girl reported to deputies that "grandpa was hurting grandma and her two aunts and grandpa said ‘they should have stayed out of it.’”
The community of Bradford County was deeply shaken by the event, with Sheriff Gordon Smith describing it as "like an earthquake" and vowing that the person responsible would be held accountable. Brown has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder.
A viewing was held for Robinson and Sims on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Haile Funeral Home in Starke, while a funeral for all three women took place on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Gov. Charley Johns Conference Center in Starke. The service was open to the public, reflecting the community's support for the grieving family.
