A young Hispanic boy, Emuel Ny Pizaro, age 3, was found dead on February 14, 2023, in a tragic event that also claimed the life of his mother. The discovery was made inside their apartment in the Quebec Square Village public housing complex in Brooklyn, Connecticut. Emuel, described as a smart, loving, and playful child, was found to have been shot in the head. His death was officially ruled a homicide by the state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Emuel's mother, Lury M. Pizarro, 33, was also found deceased in the apartment. She had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, neck, and torso, and her death was also ruled a homicide. Family and friends remembered her as a kind, generous, and selfless person who was thrilled to be a mother. She had moved to the Brooklyn apartment only a few months before the incident.
The suspect in the double murder was identified as 32-year-old Jose Perez, who was also found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a suicide. Authorities believe Perez, who was the little boy's father, fatally shot both Lury and their son. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire on the night of the incident, which prompted the police response that led to the grim discovery. The motive for the murder-suicide was not immediately clear to family members, who expressed shock at the violent end to the family's lives.
