In the midst of a chaotic scene on June 19, 2023, in Greeley, Colorado, 23-year-old Tise Tufa Koji was fatally shot. Officers from the Greeley Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of 28th Avenue following reports of a large disturbance involving at least ten gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered a frantic environment with two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel promptly transported both victims to a local hospital. The second victim, a 24-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and survived. Tise Tufa Koji, however, had sustained serious injuries and was placed on life support for a short time before he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. The Weld County Coroner's Office later officially identified him as the deceased.
According to police, the suspected gunman, who they believed knew the victims, had fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived. An investigation was launched by the Greeley Police Department's Investigation Unit. Through multiple citizen tips and with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, and the Fort Morgan Police Department, a suspect was identified as 20-year-old Eric Nshizirungu.
Eric Nshizirungu was later captured without incident. He was arrested and transported to the Weld County Jail. He was booked on charges of Murder in the First Degree, Aggravated Menacing, and 1st Degree Assault. The investigation into the incident was described as ongoing, with police believing it to be an isolated event.
