On November 20, 2023, Beth Wade Geers, 73, was fatally shot in a rural area of Westcliffe, Colorado. The incident occurred along a property line in a wooded area near a residence on Rocky Ridge Road. The shooting was part of a larger incident that resulted in the deaths of three people and left one person critically injured.
