Joseph David Middleton, a 49-year-old male, passed away on August 18, 2024, in his hometown of Clarksville, Arkansas. His death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred at a residence on Private Road 3533. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene at approximately 1:50 p.m. Following the incident, the Arkansas State Police were asked to assist in the investigation.
In connection with the shooting death of Middleton, authorities arrested 22-year-old Mark Anthony Gonzalez of Johnson County. Gonzalez was subsequently charged with First-Degree Murder and Delivery of a Controlled Substance. He is currently being held at the Johnson County Detention Center. Reports indicate that Gonzalez claimed the shooting was an act of self-defense, alleging that Middleton had approached him with an axe during the encounter.
Joseph Middleton was born on February 18, 1975, in Clarksville. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Middleton, as well as his children, stepchildren, and other family members. A funeral service was held for him on August 28, 2024, at the Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is ongoing.
