On a tragic Friday afternoon, June 2, 2023, the community of Matewan, West Virginia, was shaken by the loss of a dedicated public servant. Cory Maynard, a 37-year-old White / Caucasian male and a sergeant with the West Virginia State Police, was fatally shot in the line of duty.
