In the early hours of February 29, 2024, a tragic event unfolded in a Bountiful, Utah neighborhood that claimed the life of 20-year-old Uatisone Junior Kelemete. Born in Ili Ili, American Samoa, Kelemete was a resident of West Bountiful. He was discovered unconscious around 1 a.m. near 1950 S. Bonneview Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Emergency services transported him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The investigation into the shooting led Bountiful police to identify a person of interest, Darius Jay Farr, also 20, from Salt Lake City. Farr had arrived at St. Mark's Hospital shortly after the shooting with gunshot wounds to his leg and hand. Initially, he claimed to be the victim of a carjacking attempt. However, as the investigation progressed, he admitted to meeting with Kelemete for the purpose of selling him THC vaping cartridges.
Authorities have stated that both Kelemete and Farr were armed and that an exchange of gunfire occurred during the transaction. Farr was subsequently arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was booked into the Davis County Jail and is facing charges of murder, a first-degree felony; obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony; possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony; and distribution of or arranging to distribute a controlled substance, a third-degree felony. He is currently being held without bail.
