On a tragic evening in west Phoenix, the life of 62-year-old Hispanic male, Isaias Garcia Tovar, Sr., was cut short in an act of domestic violence. On March 16, 2021, a gathering at a residence near 65th Avenue and Camelback Road turned into a scene of immense sorrow and loss, forever altering the lives of a close-knit family.
That evening, a family member named Gilbert Gonzalez, who had reportedly been drinking and expressing suicidal thoughts, turned a gun on his own relatives.
The sudden eruption of violence left a devastating toll. Isaias Garcia Tovar, Sr., his 66-year-old wife Delia Noriega, and their 31-year-old nephew Isaias Tovar Jr., were all fatally shot. A fifth family member, a 19-year-old male, was also wounded in the attack but managed to survive his injuries.
In a desperate act of self-preservation, one of the family members present was able to return fire, striking Gonzalez and ending the deadly rampage. When police arrived at the home around 6:45 p.m., they discovered a scene of chaos and heartbreak with five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
