On December 31, 2017, 19-year-old Wayne Tyron James was shot and killed in Jacksonville, Florida. He was found in a vehicle in the Moncrief area, a neighborhood that has seen its share of violence. The young man’s tragic death occurred in the midst of Jacksonville's challenging year for homicides, where the number of murders in 2017 reached 141.
