In the cool evening air of Glendale, Arizona, on March 5, 2022, tragedy irrevocably altered the lives of a local family. Demone Wilson, a 19-year-old male who was just one week shy of his twentieth birthday, was fatally shot in a burst of gunfire. The young man, described by his family as a loving son, brother, and uncle with a passion for football and music, had plans to attend an event called Arizona Culture Night near 47th and Glendale Avenues.
Before he could make it inside, however, violence erupted in the parking lot outside of the Block Recording Studio near the intersection of 48th Avenue and Glendale Avenue.
Glendale police were summoned to the chaotic scene at approximately 10 o'clock that Saturday night. Upon arrival, they discovered a harrowing sight, with three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Demone Wilson was among them, and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Two other victims were also hospitalized. In a related development that same night, a fourth underage individual was dropped off at a different hospital with life-threatening injuries, believed to be connected to the same shooting incident.
In the aftermath, grieving family and friends gathered to create a makeshift memorial of balloons, flowers, and candles in the parking lot where Demone's life was cut short. The Glendale Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, but the suspect or suspects had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Despite the presence of multiple witnesses, the investigation has been met with challenges, and a motive for the shooting has not been publicly determined.
