On February 12, 2024, Marjorie Jeanne "Marjie" Valentine, aged 72, and her husband Sam Allan Miller, aged 73, were fatally shot in their home in Phoenix, Arizona. The incident resulted in the loss of both Marjie and Sam due to gun violence.

The perpetrator of the shooting was identified as their son, Jim Miller. According to documents, Jim Miller was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of his parents.
