On June 6, 2024, the body of 29-year-old Eric Cruz was discovered near Avenue G and County 21st Street in San Luis, Arizona, just before 7 am. Cruz, a resident of Yuma (though also identified as a Somerton resident in some reports), was found dead inside a car.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) identified Eric Cruz as the victim and notified his next of kin. The case was immediately under investigation by the YCSO.
