A Li, a 41-year-old man, was found fatally wounded late on the night of August 14, 2019, near 49th and Hamilton Streets in Omaha. Police had been called to the area around 11:30 p.m. for a report of gunfire; officers located him outside an apartment building, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that some potential witnesses spoke limited English, a barrier that complicated early interviews and slowed the gathering of firsthand accounts.
