Taylor Capri German, a 26-year-old White/Caucasian female from Laurel, Delaware, was killed on the night of September 10, 2023, after gunfire erupted near the Little Creek Apartments in Laurel. Police said the violence began when an unidentified suspect or suspects fired multiple rounds into a vehicle occupied by Taylor, a 41-year-old Millsboro man, and a third person.
Wounded and under attack, the victims made it to West Sixth Street, where Laurel Police were contacted and emergency help was requested.
Officers responded at about 9:35 p.m. and found Taylor seated inside the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, the 41-year-old man, had also been shot and was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries; he was later released. Early reporting described the incident as a double shooting, and the investigation was turned over to the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit.
Taylor was later publicly identified by Delaware State Police as the victim in the Laurel homicide. Her obituary described her as Taylor Capri German, born in Seaford, Delaware, on August 13, 1997, the daughter of Tammey German and the late Luther Stanford. Loved ones knew her as “Nana.” She attended the Seaford and Laurel school districts, loved dogs, enjoyed fishing, writing, singing, arts and crafts, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Family remembered her as outgoing, free-spirited, devoted to her loved ones, and especially close to her mother.
For several months, authorities continued investigating who had fired into the vehicle. On February 13, 2024, a Sussex County grand jury indicted 19-year-old Azzure Horsey of Laurel. The next day, February 14, 2024, Delaware State Police detectives arrested Horsey without incident and transported him to Troop 4.
Horsey was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, five counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, first-degree conspiracy, second-degree assault, and first-degree reckless endangering. After arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, he was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $3,260,000 cash bond. Authorities continued to describe the case as an active homicide investigation and asked anyone with additional information to contact Detective A. Bluto or Delaware Crime Stoppers.
