On January 15, 2003, 18-year-old Scott J. Vermette was fatally shot with a shotgun inside his Sanford, Maine, apartment. The perpetrator was his friend, 20-year-old Dallas Sizemore, who was subsequently charged with manslaughter. In January 2004, Sizemore pled guilty to the charge and received a 10-year prison sentence.
