On December 15, 2023, Jason "Jay" Benjamin Feeler, a 54-year-old Caucasian male from Sun River, Montana, died from gunshot wounds. The incident that led to his death involved a heated and violent confrontation with his son, Dalton Feeler.
The deadly encounter was reportedly precipitated by an allegation made to Dalton that his father, Jason, had raped his fiancé earlier that day. Enraged, Dalton went to his father's residence armed with a handgun to confront him. Upon his arrival, a physical fight broke out between the father and son. Witnesses at the scene managed to separate the two.
The situation escalated further when Jason Feeler allegedly took possession of the handgun, loaded it, and threatened everyone present. After being persuaded to leave to de-escalate the conflict, Dalton went outside and called 911. During this time, witnesses disarmed Jason, who was reportedly threatening himself, and brought the gun outside to Dalton to be unloaded.
However, Jason then emerged from the house with a rusted sickle and began taunting his son, leading to another physical altercation.
After the second fight was broken up, Dalton went into the garage to get his hat, believing his father had gone back inside the house. He found his father behind a locked door in the garage. Another argument ensued, and when Jason opened the door, Dalton shot him multiple times. Jason Feeler was struck in the chest and died at the scene. Dalton unloaded the firearm, placed it down, and waited in the yard for law enforcement to arrive. He was taken into custody without incident. Dalton Feeler has since been charged with deliberate homicide.
