On the evening of May 19, 2007, the quiet town of Moscow, Idaho, was shattered by a tragic and violent rampage that claimed the life of 62-year-old Paul Bauer. A male resident of the town, Bauer was the caretaker at the First Presbyterian Church, a place that would tragically become the final scene in a devastating series of events. He was known in the community as a kind and helpful man, with his life tragically cut short.
The perpetrator of this senseless act was Jason Hamilton, who,
on that fateful day, embarked on a shooting spree. Before his deadly encounter with Bauer, Hamilton had already murdered his wife, Crystal Hamilton, and Moscow Police Sergeant Lee Newbill. After these initial acts of violence, Hamilton made his way to the First Presbyterian Church. It was there he encountered Bauer, who was in his office at the time. Hamilton shot Bauer multiple times, inflicting fatal wounds. In a chilling detail that later emerged, it was revealed that Bauer was on the phone with 911 dispatchers at the very moment he was killed.
The violent rampage concluded within the walls of the church sanctuary, where Jason Hamilton took his own life. With the perpetrator deceased, the case of Paul Bauer's murder is considered solved, and no arrests were made in connection with his death.
