In the late afternoon chill of November 19, 2017, the life of 18-year-old Ian Jewell, a White/Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in the parking lot of an Ace Hardware in Goffstown, New Hampshire. Jewell, a resident of Manchester and a senior at Manchester Memorial High School, was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injury.
The incident, which occurred around 4:15 p.m., prompted a lockdown of nearby businesses as police began their search for the person responsible.
The investigation into Jewell's death, which was ruled a homicide, soon revealed that he was the victim of a robbery. In the days following the shooting, authorities announced the arrest of a juvenile in connection with the murder. Due to the suspect's age, his identity was initially withheld from the public. The juvenile was charged with first-degree murder, with an alternative count of second-degree murder, for allegedly shooting Jewell during the commission of the robbery.
Further details emerged, identifying the suspect as Jaiden Ciruzzi, who was 16 years old at the time of the incident. It was revealed that Ciruzzi had arranged a meeting with Jewell under the pretense of a drug deal, with the actual intention of robbing him. In June 2022, Jaiden Ciruzzi, then 20 years old, was sentenced for the murder of Ian Jewell. He had pleaded guilty to reckless second-degree murder and received a sentence of 34 years to life in state prison.
The community mourned the loss of Ian Jewell, who was remembered as an honor student and a member of the track and field team. In the wake of his death, hundreds of students, friends, and community members gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor his memory.
