In the quiet town of Hubbardton, Vermont, a tragic event unfolded on February 12, 2014, ending the life of 26-year-old Christopher Shane Plummer. On that Wednesday afternoon, a 911 call reported a shooting incident, drawing Vermont State Police and emergency personnel to a residence on VT Route 30. Outside the home, they discovered the bodies of Christopher and his 57-year-old father, Shane Plummer. Both men had been fatally shot.
Christopher, known to his loved ones as "Mr.
Fixit," was a 2006 graduate of Fair Haven High School. He had worked for Mike's Electrical for a few years and was working with his father at Shane's Electrical at the time of his death. He was remembered as a good artist who enjoyed drawing, fishing, and four-wheeling. He left behind his mother, two sisters, and his girlfriend, Heather Gannon, along with her daughter.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led police to identify the resident of the home, 71-year-old Sylvester Labartino, as a person of interest. Labartino's vehicle was missing from the scene, and an alert was issued. A short time later, officers located and stopped Labartino's white Ford Bronco as he was driving north in the nearby town of Castleton.
Sylvester Labartino was arrested and subsequently charged with the murders of Christopher and Shane Plummer. He was incarcerated while awaiting trial. However, before the case could proceed to trial, Labartino died on August 27, 2014, at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield. His death was believed to be from natural causes, as he had been recently diagnosed with a serious medical condition and had a history of other health problems.
